It’s a sad day when industry giants feel they can pay their way to hiding the crappy ingredients they use in manufactured foods. But, perhaps, it’s an even sadder day when half of a nation’s population lack the basic math skills
to understand the current “Guideline Daily Amount” system, which is much like the percentage daily requirements system mandated in the United States.
Such is the case in the UK where the FSA (Food Standards Agency) is trying to roll out a Traffic Light system of identifying healthy versus un-healthy food items on store shelves. With an $8 million campaign stacked against it, can a 10-second cartoon advertisement really make a difference?
